Edinburgh Chinese Community School
Liberton High School, 328 Gilmerton Road, Edinburgh EH17 7PT
The Edinburgh Chinese Community School (ECCS) was founded in Summer 2000.
The mission of ECCS is to promote the Chinese language, culture and the advancement of community education.
I am happy to report the successful completion of our first term for 2011/2012 despite having some hiccups with late arrival of books for late registrants for some of our classes and the departure of one of our teachers, Ms Lin Jia mid-way through the term due to relocation. All students should now have their required books, had one full term of language studies, completed their first term assessments and deserve a well earned break to enjoy Christmas and New Year.
Edexcel results:
It gives me great pleasure to announce the Summer 2011 Edexcel results for our ECCS students

| IGCSE (Mandarin) | 2 CANDIDATES | 1 x A* and 1 x B |

Activities & Events:
We managed also to have a small group of students for our badminton club led by teacher, Vinton Poon and would welcome more students to turn up for some exercise before language classes. Our Chinese Knotting class is still going strong and again, Ms Josephine Morton welcomes our students to join her class from 11.30 till 12.30 and adults from 1 till 3pm for only £3 per session plus materials. We are hoping to start the Chinese Instrumental music class for beginners next term. iIf anyone is interested in any of the Art & Culture classes, please go to the website for the registration form for term 2.
On the 4th of December, some of our students represented the school to welcome the pandas to the Edinburgh Zoo. The organisers would like to thank everyone who braved the cold to give Tian Tian and Yang Guang a Big Warm Edinburgh Welcome.
Recycling:
On the 10th of Dec, bags of old clothes, shoes, belts, bags, bedlinens and curtains donated by our school members were sold to Cash4Clothes and raised £63 plus a £30 cheque donation from one of our parents. Thank you to everyone who donated this time and we hope you can have another Spring clean and wardrobe clear out in term 2 to raise more funds. If any parents have any fund raising ideas and would like to help the school raise more funds so that we can offer more activities for our students, please do not hesitate to speak to me.
Next Term:
Next term we will have two fund raising opportunities when we celebrate The Year of the Dragon at Churchill Theatre on Sunday, 22nd Jan from 12 till 3pm and at Liberton on Saturday, 28th Jan from 12 till 3pm. Please watch out for news of these events and we hope you and your friends will support both events and enjoy the Spring festival celebrations with the Scottish Chinese communities in Edinburgh.
Finally what a relief for everyone that our first term ended without any cancellations of Chinese school due to bad weather conditions. Last year we lost 2 Saturdays towards the end of term when snow and ice made it very difficult for everyone to travel and Liberton had to close their school. As Winter is still going to be with us into term 2, please check with our web site or the Liberton office (Tel: 0131 6647514) to find out whether our school is affected before setting out for Chinese school.
May I wish all our members a Merry X'mas and Happy 2012 and see you back for term 2 on Saturday, 7th January 2012.
